NLC Threatens Nationwide Boycott Over Telecoms 50% Tariff Hike
Amidst a nationwide debate over a tariff reduction, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed support for the 50 percent telecom tariff hike, urging telecommunications companies to enhance service delivery in line with the price increase.
The Nigerian Communications Commission on Monday announced that the hike, the first in eleven years, aims to revive the telecommunications sector.
In an interview with journalists in Switzerland on Thursday during the ongoing 2025 World Economic Forum, Edun said the tariff adjustment is essential for sustaining the sector due to rising operational costs and inflation.
