Anambra State Prohibits Mobile Phone Use in Secondary Schools
The Anambra State Government has officially banned the use of mobile phones by secondary school students across the state to curb distractions and improve academic performance.
Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, made the announcement during the Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day celebration in Awka. She directed school principals and teachers to confiscate any mobile phones brought to school by students.
According to Ikediugwu, the increasing use of phones during school hours has become a major distraction, affecting students’ focus and discipline. She emphasized that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is committed to enhancing education by promoting academic excellence and instilling discipline.

In her address, she also highlighted the importance of preserving Igbo culture, describing it as a rich heritage that should be cherished. She urged students to uphold values such as honesty, hard work, and respect for elders, which are core to the Igbo identity.
