Expert Urges AI Adoption For Early Detection of Hypertension, Cancer
A public health expert and lead researcher on the emerging technology for the Health Initiative, Dr. Chinyelu Uzoma is utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance early detection and preventive care of non-communicable diseases.

In an interview with newsmen over the weekend, Uzoma stressed that Northern Nigeria records some of the highest mortality rates from NCDs, largely due to delayed diagnoses and inadequate healthcare access.
According to her, ET offers a proactive approach to identify at-risk populations early, even in remote areas, stating that it aims to democratize preventive care and reduce the burden on overwhelmed facilities.
The health expert expressed that the system analyzes data from portable diagnostic devices such as handheld monitors and testing kits used during village outreaches. The machine learning then cross-references this information with local dietary habits, family histories, and environmental factors to predict health risks.
She noted that it can flag early warning signs in a patient’s health patterns long before complications arise.
