
Lagos to Premiere Africa’s First AI-Themed Film
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the release of Africa’s first feature film centered on technology and artificial intelligence, Makemation.

The Nollywood production is scheduled to circulate cinemas nationwide from April 18 this year, during the Easter weekend.
The governor emphasized his administration’s focus on ensuring creativity and innovation in the state’s film and entertainment industry, expressing its consistency in prioritizing the growth of its creative industry.
According to him, fostering creativity and innovation is crucial for the state’s development. The governor reiterated the state’s commitment to supporting innovative initiatives, which aim to promote talented filmmakers and artists while showcasing technology’s immense potential in storytelling.
The AI-themed movie Makemation explores the combination of artificial intelligence and real life, tackling subjects such as STEM education, financial literacy, digital skills, and gender equality.

Makemation Producer Akerele-Ogunsiji described the film as a solid attempt to inspire young Nigerians to look beyond just consuming technology to actively developing it, expressing that Nigerian films should showcase indigenous innovations.
Makemation’s cast includes Richard Mofe-Damijo, Tony Umez, Shaffy Bello, and Ibrahim Chatta, among others, blending research, pop culture, and high-stakes storytelling with AI-driven themes.
