A new era of innovation is dawning in Nigeria with the launch of the NEXTGEN Innovation Challenge 2026 — a dynamic platform designed to empower visionary entrepreneurs, researchers, and young talents while fostering global partnerships. Proudly organized by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), under the leadership of Dr. Kazeem Kolawole Raji, and in partnership with UKALD — a leading UK-based consultancy — the Challenge aims to accelerate the growth of transformative ideas and technologies across Nigeria and beyond.

At IDEA Television, Africa’s first innovation-focused channel dedicated to science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, research, health, and policy, we are proud to champion and showcase platforms like the NEXTGEN Innovation Challenge. This initiative aligns with our mission to amplify African innovation and support the development of homegrown solutions that address local and global challenges.

A Platform with Proven Impact

Since its inception, the NEXTGEN platform has achieved remarkable milestones, including acceptance by the Commonwealth, extending its reach to over 56 countries, and being featured among Nigeria’s top 105 innovators from diverse sectors and regions. Most notably, the platform has secured over $1.5 million in investment to scale advanced solar technologies, further positioning Nigeria as a leader in science and innovation.

NEXTGEN 2026: Building on a Strong Foundation

The 2026 edition will unite academia, government, and private investors to drive innovation in line with Nigeria’s national development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). NEXTGEN 2026 is strategically focused on life-changing solutions in key sectors such as software and app development, advanced semiconductors, 3D animation and design, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, future telecommunications (6G and AI integration), safety and tracking devices, green and renewable energy, climate resilience, flood detection systems, and gender-inclusive innovation.

Event Timeline

The Challenge officially kicks off in February 2026. A three-day innovation boot camp will be held in July 2026 in Abuja, featuring world-class training, prototype development, and mentorship with support from Teesside University (UK), Google, and other international partners. The grand finale will take place in October 2026 at London’s ExCeL Centre and in Toronto, Canada — where top innovators will present their solutions to a global audience of investors, policymakers, and industry leaders.
