Nigeria was plunged into a nationwide blackout on Monday after the national power grid collapsed. The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the incident in a statement on X, noting that power generation dropped sharply to about 50 megawatts as restoration efforts began.

NISO, which manages electricity transmission to distribution companies, said only Abuja and Ibadan were receiving power at the time, sharing the limited 50 megawatts available. This marked a steep fall from the 3,660 megawatts supplied nationwide on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

The operator said work is ongoing to stabilize the grid and gradually restore electricity across the country.
