The Sokoto State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund have unveiled a 10-year education plan aimed at making learning more inclusive, gender-responsive and climate-resilient. The State Education Strategic Plan, covering 2026 to 2035, was unveiled, alongside shorter-term operational plans.
The initiative targets major barriers to education, including poverty, insecurity, displacement and limited learning opportunities, with particular attention to girls, children with disabilities, Almajiri learners and nomadic children. It also includes local education plans covering eight local government areas across the state.
The partners say success will depend on moving beyond policy documents to practical implementation, backed by sustainable funding and accountability. The plans are expected to guide annual education budgets and programmes, with the goal of improving enrolment, retention, learning outcomes and access to quality education for every child in Sokoto.
