Following the Republicans’ disappointing performance in the midterm elections, US President Donald Trump appears to be shifting attention towards the renovation of the White House ballroom, describing the proposed structure as an unprecedented addition to the presidential residence.
“This is going to be a structure like nothing ever seen before,” Trump said, praising the project’s design and security features.
The president also described the ballroom as “the most secure place in Washington” and promised that it would be a world-class facility.
However, the project’s reported $400 million price tag has drawn attention to its cost, with questions likely to persist over the use of public resources for the ambitious renovation.
Trump’s renewed focus on the ballroom comes at a politically difficult moment, following an election setback that has strengthened Democratic control in Congress and increased scrutiny of his administration.
