Sydney shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed was shot four times after bravely disarming a gunman during the deadly Bondi terror attack on December 14, 2025, which claimed 15 lives during a Hanukkah celebration.
Hailed as a hero, Ahmed said he intervened to stop further bloodshed, recounting how he leapt onto the attacker’s back in an attempt to end the shooting. Video footage showing him wrestling the weapon from Sajid Akram circulated widely online, highlighting his courageous act despite sustaining serious injuries.

The attack occurred at Archer Park in Bondi, where more than 1,000 people had gathered to celebrate Hanukkah. Dozens were wounded. One suspected gunman, Naveed Akram, now faces 59 charges, while his father, Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police at the scene.
The incident is being described as Australia’s deadliest terror attack and the second-deadliest mass shooting in the country’s modern history.
