Former South African President Thabo Mbeki has cancelled his planned visit to Nigeria following the death of his younger sister, Dr Fezeka Mabona, who passed away over the weekend. The bereavement has led to the indefinite postponement of a high-profile fireside chat that had been scheduled for June 15 in Lagos.
The announcement was made by Prof Adebayo Olukoshi, President and CEO of the Amandla Institute — the organising body behind the event — in a letter circulated to invitees on Monday. Mbeki had been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the occasion.

Olukoshi expressed deep regret over the development and apologised to participants and stakeholders for any inconvenience. He also urged supporters to keep the former president and his family in their thoughts.
