A new wave of insecurity has struck Akwa Ibom State as terrorists reportedly stormed a school in Oron Local Government Area, abducting an unknown number of students.
The incident first came to light in a video circulating on social media on Friday, where a visibly distressed young woman warned that residents are no longer safe and drew attention to the alleged attack and abductions.
The widely shared clip, posted by X user Somto Okonkwo, alleged that armed men entered the school during school hours and abducted several students before fleeing to an unknown destination.
At the time of filing this report, neither the Akwa Ibom State Government nor the police had issued an official statement, and the exact number of abducted children is still unknown.
The alleged attack has heightened fear among residents, who note that the state—formerly regarded as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful—has recently seen an uptick in violent crime, kidnappings, and armed assaults.
Parents in the community are reportedly anxious as they await clearer information and strengthened security measures.
